The SOS Poison or Child Safety Poison
The SOS Poison in print exists for more than 25 years allready and is published in the Netherlands. The app for iTunes (IOS) only exists since the autumn of 2010.
The SOS Poison has been developed to be a quick help in the event of incidental small accidents in and around the house, because small accidents can sometimes have great consequences. When this happens to children these "small accidents" can leave them with serious damage that can bother them the rest of their life.
Listed in the SOS Poison are hazardous substances and poisonous plants with pictures. Step by step the SOS Poison tells you what you need to do when a child has ingested one of those substances or has eaten from one of the plants. It is vitally important because every substance of plant is diffrent and provokes a diffrent reaction in the child. Therefore requires a different treatment.
What may seem innocent can be life threatening in the hands of a child. A cigarette for instance. If a very small child swallows a cigarette it can have fatal consequences. A child can be left with liver damage if they swallow two tablets of paracetamol for adults. We have more dangerous and toxic substances in our home than we realize. Most accidents involve medication, Do It Yourself products, cleaning products, tobacco, alcohol or poisonous plants.
But shampoo's, toilet fresheners, cosmetics and rat poison are also culprits.
Small children are young researchers and are not picky: ammonia, methylated spirits and decalcifiers draw this undiminished attention.
The past 25 years the SOS Poison has more than proven itself. But times go on. New products became available and as a result new dangers arose. The SOS Poison is keeping up with the times and also offers you advice with regard to these new dangers.
If you have your telephone with you, than you also have the SOS Poison with you.
With this app on your iPhone you gain time. Precious time! This can be a matter of life and death. The SOS Poison has an extensive list with dangerous and poisonous substances and approximately sixty pictures of plants. At a single glance you can see on the display whether a berry, plant or substance is poisonous and what you need to do if it is.
If necessary a phone call to 112 is immediately available.
Since December 2010 the SOS Poison has been translated into Dutch, German, English, Spanish and Russian. These apps can now be downloaded at the iPhone iStore.
For the Android Market the Dutch and German (Gifteratgeber) apps are available.
We would love to include the experiences of users in the development of the app.
Do you have comments or substances that you feel should be included in the SOS Poison.
